On Sunday, May 4th, the WWE returns to PPV for the first time since WrestleMania XXX with Extreme Rules.  Below we’ll provide predictions for each match that fans will get to see live from the Izod Center in New Jersey.  If you can’t make it to East Rutherford, NJ, you can watch Extreme Rules live on WWE Network at 8 ET.

Daniel Bryan vs. Kane (Extreme Rules for WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

One thing is for certain, Daniel Bryan should be very rested after his WrestleMania XXX win.  Bryan was not on TV the week following his win as he got “married” to one of the Bella’s.  We can debate if this was a work or shoot, but regardless he was off TV.  When he returned he got mauled by Kane and WWE made us believe he suffered a neck injury.  Reality is he just wanted some more time off.  Without a great program to throw at Bryan, and his need for time off, Kane jumps back out as a maniacal demon who is hell-bent on destroying Bryan’s title run.  We have seen these two in the past and it hasn’t been classic wrestling.  Don’t expect this one to be any different.  Steph McMahon may provide some classic heel moments throughout this romp, but in the end Bryan will retain the title.  Prediction – Daniel Bryan

The Shield vs. Evolution

Gimmicks and stables work in pro wrestling.  Going back to the Heenan Family to the Four Horsemen, fans love to hate groups of wrestlers that are united by a leader driving them to greatness.  Evolution was re-formed from the fallout at WrestleMania XXX, namely the crowds reaction to Dave Batista and Randy Orton.  There has been solid momentum leading up to this match, including the return of Ric Flair this past Monday night at Raw.  Don’t think for a second that Flair will be in favor of The Shield.  Just the opposite as WWE is going to need someone to step in to take over when Batista departs early to promote his new movie.  Expect Flair to have a major role in the outcome of this match with Evolution coming out victorious.  Could be one of the top matches of the night as The Shield has delivered big this year against the Wyatt Family on several occasions.  Prediction – Evolution

John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt (Steel Cage Match)

If there is one match on the card that we are looking forward to the most from Extreme Rules, this is the one.  These two mixed it up in New Orleans with Cena coming out victorious, but some would say the program since has been more entertaining.  Steel cage matches often bring out the best in wrestlers and we expect the same to be said for this match.  This is a make or break moment for Wyatt and he will deliver.  Cena could lose this match 10 times out of 10 and it wouldn’t be an issue, but if Wyatt loses he is headed back down the ladder.  This will be the most physical match of the night and could show a more violent Cena, without the heel turn.  In the end, Wyatt comes out on top but the program between these two may continue for months.  Prediction – Bray Wyatt

Big E Langston vs. Bad News Barrett (Intercontinental Championship)

We couldn’t be happier that WWE creative is finally putting the juice behind the Intercontinental Title.  This is long overdue, and a great opportunity for mid-tier guys to shine.  During the three week IC Title tournament we saw some solid matches that were capped off by Bad New Barrett defeating Rob Van Dam to earn his shot against Langston.  Still unsure of why WWE thought that Big E needed to drop his last name, but this will be a common thread moving forward.  First he drops his last name, and at Extreme Rules he will drop the IC title.  It’s been a long, winding road for Barrett who came on the scene as the leader of The Nexus.  Shortly thereafter he suffered a gruesome on-screen injury and has been climbing his way back up the ladder ever since.  Hopefully WWE will give Barrett and others a true push once he is wearing the strap after Sunday night.  Prediction – Barrett

Cesaro vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Jack Swagger (Elimination Triple Threat Match)

Courtesy of WWE.com

Cesaro continues his rise to a main event star, and this match won’t do anything to diminish that rise.  WWE wants to turn Cesaro heel in the worst way.  They paired him up with Paul Heyman to be a “Paul Heyman guy” but fans are concerned that this could lead to a Curtis Axle fate.  Don’t worry about that for a second.  Cesaro is working his way toward a program with Daniel Bryan, while RVD and Swagger are working to stay out of Main Event programing.  If it wasn’t for a contract signed before WrestleMania, RVD wouldn’t be anywhere near this match.  Prediction – Cesaro

Paige vs. Tamina Snuka (Divas Championship)

Courtesy of WWE.com

We knew the time was coming when the WWE power brokers would punish AJ Lee for her off-screen relationship with CM Punk.  That happened the night after WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans when Lee dropped the Divas title to Paige.  It was a sloppy match, but who really cares.  Same feeling about this match, does anyone really care what happens here?  This is a great filler for fans to run to the bathroom or to order up another tall-boy PBR.  When fans return to their seats they will be told that “One of the broads won”.  Perfect description of this matchup.  Prediction – one broad wins.

Alexander Rusev vs. R-Truth and Xavier Woods (Handicap Match)

Courtesy of WWE.com

The unfortunate thing about this match is no one cares what happens to R-Truth or Xavier Woods.  If you think for one second these two jobbers are going to beat Rusev, think again.  You have a better chance of landing a date with Rusev’s in-ring valet Lana.  Let’s take just a second and remind fans that Lana (aka C.J. Perry) was once a member of the Florida State Cowgirls.  Yeah, let that soak in tonight while this match drones on.  Prediction – Rusev by double pin-fall, and a lot of internet searches of C.J. Perry

Pre-Show:  El Torito vs. Hornswoggle (WeeTLC Match)

Courtesy of WWE.com

Is this a joke?  The biggest shock to us at the False Finish Podcast is that these are two different characters.  What can we expect from this one?  Foot stools in place of ladders, Playschool tables in place of real tables, chairs that a toddler would sit in…you get the point.  This is a complete waste of time.  Where is a match between Dolph Ziggler and The Miz.  That would provide two wrestlers who are stuck in the bowels of the WWE booking process a chance to showcase their talents more than this pint sized match-up.  Prediction – Draw
